Senior Engineer / Section Engineer - Slipform - £5 Billion Project
Our client is one of the largest specialist civil engineering contractors in the UK and also a major name worldwide. They require an experienced Section Engineer that has previous exposure working on major civil engineering projects, preferably roads/highways. Candidates wishing to apply must have in depth knowledge of Retaining walls and Slipform and be eligible to work in the UK.
Requirements
- Direction and guidance to site engineers on Slipform
- Effective liaison with the land surveying team who provide the primary control points using GPS.
- Coaches subordinates in the use of setting-out techniques, quality control and checking
- Develops competence and promotes career progression within the engineering team
- Actively uses the Specification as a reference document
- Maintains a comprehensive quality filing system and as built records
- Identifies and raises Technical Queries with possible solutions
- Avoidance of rework
- Total commitment to Zero Harm policy
- Produces Method Statements and Risk Assessments
- Prepares and raises Temporary Works Briefs where required
- Induction of new site engineers when required
- Completes H + S records and documentation
- Plans ahead and ensures all technical details are resolved ahead of construction
- Produces engineering support to meet the weekly construction programme
- Provides clarification on technical information and queries to site engineers and specialist subcontractors by issuing sketches and drawings thereby avoiding programme delays
- Optimum usage of plant and materials by applying engineering knowledge to practical solutions
- Collates Weekly Measure information and monitors materials usage to avoid wastage against budget.
- Carries out labour and plant reconciliation when required
- Identifies items of additional work and raises the necessary notifications
- Works to specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant specialist subcontractors and suppliers
Responsibilities
- Proven ability in working with specialist subcontractors in achieving project specification in materials, workmanship and dimensional control within a UK contracting environment
- Innovative slipforming of L shaped mass concrete retaining walls
- Meticulous attention to engineering detail
- Fully aware of specialist subcontractors obligations under the contract
- Understanding of construction tolerances
- Awareness of Specification and other Contract documents
- Understands Permit System and actively raises permits to dig/Work
- Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) trained
- Is able to identify potential hazards and is proactive in implementing actions and controls
- Understands the importance of sectional completion and associated "hand over "documentation to avoid financial penalties.
- Good understanding of key contract documentation
- Understands specific terms, conditions and outputs of relevant subcontractors and suppliers
